++GORBEKIS PRIME
The Gorbekis system is located in the southern reaches of the Segmentum Obscurus. It consists of Three worlds, two of which orbit the sun in such proximity that they are uninhabitable. The third (Gorbekis Prime) orbits at a distance similar to that of ancient Terra. It has one smallish moon. Gorbekis has a northern and southern continent conected by a narrow land bridge. The northern land mass is dominated by sprawling industrial complexes and hive spires with miles of polluted ash wastes surrounding. The southern continent is covered in thick jungle. Mining and industrial pollution have turned the atmosphere black over the northern hemisphere, but have yet to impact the southern jungles to any observable extent.
CURRENT STATUS: Gorbekis Prime has been the scene of a terrible and violent heretical uprising. A Nurgle chaos cult had been slowly growing and infiltrating the various levels of Imperial society on Gorbekis, spreading strange and deadly poxes and diseases amoung the population. To the horror of the planetary governour when the cult moved to take over his world he found that the very planetary defense force he commanded was no longer loyal to him, having been swayed to the will of chaos. With the help of daemons attracted by unholy ritual the heretic forces easily slaughtered any who opposed them. The planetary governour himself ws killed by the commanding officier of the planetary defense force who proclaimed himself "Overlord of Gorbekis". Driven by visons of foul glory he awaits the arrival of the servants of his new master, assured that they will reward him for his devotion. His fate will be answered shortly, as a chaos plague Fleet has taken up orbit around the planet .
WHAT THIS ALL MEANS: The above was simply the general them/idea behind my nurgle force. It gives a little basic background that can be a great setting for 40k campaigns. The setting helped determine aspects of how I modeled my models (dirty, urban/industrial bases, etc.), and motivated me to build themed terrain to go with my army. I have a huge and ever growing collection of Imperial urban/industrial terrain, and have started to build some jungle terrain as well. Since urban/industrial and jungle terrain are my favorite types of terrain I chose them as elements of my army theme/story. Since I also have a nurgle-themed chaos fleet for Battlefleet Gothic I had to throw mention of that in as well. The background story has also given me the idea for a new army: Renegade Planetary Defense Force. This will be a standard imperial guard army, but it will be modeled and painted to represent an evil/heretic force(lots of skulls/nurgle symbols on tanks/etc.!!!).
